Jim attended primary school and senior school in Mabvuku. He began sculpting in 1992 under the guidance of Luxon Gutsa and his brother Tafuma Gutsa.
He is currently enrolled in the Chapungu artists? residency programme. He has been inspired by Joseph Munemo and Agnes Nyanhondo, both of whom he has worked with. He sculpts with relatively hard stones and seems to really have an intuitive understanding of form and space. He has exhibited at the John Boyne Gallery and his works are exhibited in both public and private collections.
