Born in 1981 in John Nngomashe, Born in 1981 in As the oldest in a family of three, John showed an early interest in art and sculpture and experimented with different media as a hobby. After he finished his secondary education in the community of Chitungwiza, he pursued his interests in sculpting by apprenticing with a few well known contemporary Zimbabwean sculptors. Under the instruction of abstract sculptor Lincoln Muteta, John learned the important fundamentals of design and execution. John, highly disciplined, worked at finding both his own voice within his work while simultaneously perfecting his technical construction. Today, John works with abstract sculptor Tonderai Marezva ? whose work is exceptionally unique in its style ? continually showing new developments and interests in clean, modern abstracted creations. Tonderai?s support and understanding will, without any doubt, enable John to exceed as a prominent Zimbabwean sculptor. Both Lincoln and Tonderai show a departure from traditional Shona sculpture to a more contemporary experimental style of stone sculpture. John?s work shows much of their influence in his work.
